    Description

    ORIGINAL
    1988
    VINTAGE PROTEST BUTTON
    CARD CARRYING
    MEMBER
    OF THE
    ACLU...AND
    PROUD OF IT!
During the 1988 presidential election, Vice President George H.W. Bush
noted that his opponent, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis,
had described himself as a "card carrying member of the ACLU" and used
that as evidence that Dukakis was a "strong, passionate liberal"
and "out of the mainstream". The phrase was subsequently
used by the ACLU in advertising campaigns.  This button carried that
message for members of the American Civil Liberties Union. This
pinback button is just as important today with the threats to the
United States Constitution that are being voiced by some politicians.
2020 is the 99th year of the ACLU
